Week Six Picks

So I wasn’t overly thrilled with my results last week – I think I could have done better than 8-5. Hopefully this week my omnipotence will only be exceeded by my prescience.

Panthers vs Falcons:

Despite Cam Newton’s impressive stats, the Panthers are at 1-4. The Falcons let us down AGAIN last week with yet another loss to the puke green and gold. They sit at 2-3 and Hotlanta waits for the Matty Ryan aerial show to materialize. The Falcons are back at the Georgia Dome this week and the 12th man will make it tough for the vistors. Falcons 28, Panthers 19.

Colts vs Bengals:

This is an interesting match up. Curtis Painter was the 3rd string QB for the Colts and Andy Dalton is a rookie trying to back fill for the missing Carson Palmer (Retired? On the trading block? AWOL?). A home game for the Bengals, it’s likely that the game isn’t sold out – unless the Indy fans make the 1.5 hour drive down to Cinci to cheer on their team. Based on recent performance, one might pick the Colts here – but something tells me that Bengals defense is going to overwhelm the Colts’ offensive line. Bengals 20, Colts 14.

49ers vs Lions:

People – the Lions have sold out a home game. It’s been a long time since that has happened. The 49ers are coming off a game where they posted almost 50 points against a lethargic Buccaneers team. This is going to be a tough game. I think Matt Stafford is making a name for himself as a QB, as I suspected he would when he first joined. And he’s still healthy! The 49ers are 4-1, but against the Lions at home, I don’t see them moving to 5-1. Lions 28, 49ers 24.

Rams vs Packers:

As much as I hate to say it, it looks like the Packers are going to remain undefeated with this match up. For those Puker fans going to the game, enjoy yourselves, because I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of the Rams suddenly finding that spark that they flirted with last season. It’s too bad too, as having the green & gold undefeated is really bugging me. Pukers 42, Rams 7.

Bills vs Giants:

The Bills beat a lackluster Eagles team on their home turf. This week they’re traveling to Meadowlands – just outside Metropolisland, where the only “meadow” is Central Park. The Giants lost to the Seachickens – also at Meadowlands. The “Sad Eli” face that says “I just threw another INT” reared its ugly head several times. Manning vs Fitzpatrick in this match up. Last week I thought the Giants would get it together and win. This week they’re facing a better team. Bills 27, Giants 20.

Jaguars vs Steelers:

The Steelers seem to have woken up from whatever ailed them at the start of the season and are coming off a win against the Titans. Meanwhile the Jaguars were dominated by the Bengals. Yeah  – the ones from Cincinnati. I don’t see any possible way the Steelers are going to allow the Jaguars to upset them at home – especially after they allowed the Ravens to do already this year. Steelers 31, Jaguars 10.

Eagles vs Redskins:

The Eagles lost to the Bills last week, putting the aspirations of a “Dream Team” behind them and making Andy Reid kinda hot around the collar. The Redskins were on a bye. Will that make them slow and sluggish as they attempt to re-engage or will they appear rested and rejuvenated? I’m opting for the latter. Redskins 24, Eagles 21.

Texans vs Ravens:

The Texans disappointed me last week against the Raiders, while the Ravens were on a bye. I believe Flacco can out-play Schaub, and the Ravens defense will bring the pressure against the Texans’ offensive line, keeping Schaub under pressure. This is likely to be a close game, but ultimately, the Ravens will triumph. Ravens 24, Texans 20.

Browns vs Raiders:

The Raiders are coming off an emotional win and will have the home-field advantage. The Browns are coming off their early bye. With the memory of Al Davis looming large in the home stadium and the Browns having had 2 weeks since their last game, I believe Jason Campbell will lead past Colt McCoy and the Browns in an emotional home tribute to their fallen leader. Raiders 28, Browns 17.

Cowboys vs Patriots:

The Cowboys are 2-2 while the Patriots are 4-1. Tom Brady is respected but not necessarily loved in Beantown while Romo can swing from adoration to repulsion from game to game with his fan base. The Cowpokies are coming off a bye, and Romo’s last performance put him in the doghouse with the Dallas fans. I don’t think he’s going to win their love back with this game. Patriots 34, Cowboys 20.

Saints vs Buccaneers:

The Buccaneers were manhandled by the 49ers in Candlestick Park last weekend. The Saints allowed Cam Newton and the Panthers to score 21 points against them on the road. This is a home game in Tampa, where the fans don’t usually turn out en masse, removing that 12th man element from the equation. I think Josh Freeman will continue to struggle to find his groove, while Drew Brees will throw with ease. Saints 27, Bucs 13.

Vikings vs Chicago:

Oh man. The last 2 times we played at Soldier Field, the results were not what had hoped. That’s a kind way of saying we didn’t win. The Bears struggled against the Lions on MNF. Jay Cutler made some good plays – but usually didn’t have enough time to plant, let alone get off a decent throw. The Vikings’ defensive front 4 can hold their own by comparison with the Lions, but Cutler can out perform McNabb in the passing game. Will Adrian Peterson be the difference? Bears 21, Vikings 17.

Dolphins vs Jets:

Meadowlands is having a busy weekend. In this match up the blow-holed mammals from Miami are making their way up the Atlantic seaboard to take on a Jets team that isn’t doing so well this season. The Jets are 2-3 while the Dolphins remain at 0-4 coming off their bye. Might this match up come down to coaching? Will Ryan triumph over Sparano? Or will this be a battle of the struggling Sanchez vs a Matt Moore who was just elevated to starter with our own favorite Rosencopter as his back up after Henne got hurt? Jets 24, Dolphins 13.

Those are my picks this week. Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment!
